Also, their propaganda machine is viciously determined as ever, having now polarized all of NATO.

It’s what makes Putin think he’s so winning.

Putin won’t negotiate unless Russia is losing.

This is what Europe should propose to Putin. Russia will withdraw from all land it seized from Ukraine after the 2022 invasion. NATO would be dissolved and replaced with a European alliance. Ukraine and Canada would be permitted to join but not the US. All sanctions against Russia will be lifted. Russia will not be required to pay reparations. If Putin doesn’t accept the proposal, the UK and France would send troops to Ukraine.

Yeah because Putin would totally agree to that.

NATO would be dissolved and replaced with a European alliance. Ukraine and Canada would be permitted to join but not the US.

So that’s exactly the same as NATO currently is under a new name? Can’t see why Russia would see that as a benefit.

All sanctions against Russia will be lifted. Russia will not be required to pay reparations.

So now Russia has no incentive not to start the war all over again 5 to 10 when they rebuild

If Putin doesn’t accept the proposal, the UK and France would send troops to Ukraine.

Oh good escalation. That’s exactly what you want out of a peace deal.

I think your idea could use some work

The powerful US won’t be part of the European Alliance. Putin would see that as a benefit.

The European Alliance would be a formidable deterrent to Russia starting a war in 5 to 10 years.

Unless Putin is losing, he won’t agree to a peace deal. The entry of the UK and France into the war would make Putin face the possibility of losing.

You’re assuming a rational actor. Putin isn’t a rational actor, a rational actor wouldn’t have started this war.

There are some in the Russian leadership that are pushing put into towards nuclear weapons, been overly antagonising seems counterproductive.

The West has to decide whether it wants Ukraine to win or lose. Ukraine cannot win if Europe is afraid of antagonizing Putin. Remember at one time the West was afraid to supply jet fighters and tanks to Ukraine. If Putin realizes the West is afraid of nuclear weapons, then he will threaten to use them every time the West wants to give Ukraine an edge. Of course, some caution is necessary. That’s the reason in my proposal only the UK and France would supply troops. If too many European countries join, Putin will say he must use nuclear weapons because he is being overwhelmed.

Putin won’t negotiate. You aren’t allowed to surrender in Russia. Putin is a dead man if the Ukraine war ends in anything except victory, and he knows it. His fate was sealed the second a Russian boot crossed the Ukrainian border

        Putin won’t negotiate.

Every war is a prelude to diplomacy.

Putin is a dead man if the Ukraine war ends

This is a mythology the media has invented to keep people titillated with the news.

You’re looking for a storybook ending with a mortality tale. The bitter truth is that Putin’s as cemented in place as any Russian politician has ever been.

This perpetual conflict is entirely ego-driven, with Ukraine caught in the middle of a tug of war. Putin won’t quit because he’s old and stubborn. The EU leadership won’t quit because they need this war as an excuse to rearm, after decades of US occupation.

If the economy contracts hard enough, we’ll see a negotiation. Until then, it seems that everyone in power is playing with house money. So the conflict can drag on indefinitely, because it’s more fun to play at war than manage a peaceful continent in decline.

Case closed, Panthera for the win.

Seriously though, Putin can’t back his ass out of the dumpster fire that he himself lit and both Europe and the US have been trying desperately to find a clean and easy way out of this mess literally for years, including throwing him the political lifelines that could’ve gotten him out before it got worse.

The fact that what you’re proposing hasn’t ever been seriously proposed by anyone in the US or EU, is probably because its the absolute dumbest bat%#* insane brain fart of an idea that anyone’s come up with so far…

Just to get this straight: you believe that we should allow Russia to just walk away without so much as a taunt, sticking the EU with the bill of rebuilding a giant gaping hole of a country in the heart of Europe, with the threat that if Russia ever tries anything, we’ll station a non-existent European army, even though we’ve disbanded the organization that’s supposed to command, supply and organize this army, after also excluding its key supplier of weapons, troops and logistics, while hoping he doesn’t nuke us now that we’ve voluntarily broken our nuclear triad, and to just assume till then that the same man who wiped his ass with most of the international treaties that Russia ever signed will actually keep his word and not take advantage of our self-imposed weakness?

Damn, bro… you’re like the spouse lying in the hospital bed with a concussion, swollen face, and broken jaw murmuring: ‘he’s changed, it’s not his fault, I deserved it…’

The proposal would save face for Putin. He would be able to boast to the Russian people that he got the US out of Europe.

NATO would be replaced by a European alliance. With Ukraine in the alliance, it would be formidable force. Trump is already talking about leaving NATO. He also seems friendly towards Putin. The UK and France have nuclear weapons. The US won’t have troops or equipment stationed in Europe, but it can join the fight with Europe if Russian invades.

In other words, Europe should surrender to the aggressor, despite the fact that he’s trapped in what’s (for him) at best a stalemate.

Europe and the US already capitulated to the Anschluss of Crimea. How much peace did that buy us?

                  Shit is not looking good.

But they would be too much of cunts to do that anyway. This isn’t 1780, the euro powers are weak and corrupted.

It’s an insane proposal and probably would result in the destruction of Europe if implemented. But you know, other than that it’s a great idea.

It lets Russia walk away with no repercussions and no incentive not to do it again. Essentially it gives Russia all the time and money it needs to rebuild without actually resolving any of the conflict. Without a change in leadership in Russia, the possibility of this starting up again always exists.

Given that, we might as well just maintain the status quo since currently Russia can’t attack Europe because it’s too busy losing a war in Ukraine.

Maybe, idk. The fact is Russia has might, which precludes some kind of humiliating concessions. There is no peace deal with those. Do you have a better peace plan?

The only way this war ends is by Russia being so economically damaged by their own war effort that they have no choice but to give in, quite possibly after a military coup. But that will happen on Russia’s timetable, there is no point going to them with a bad proposal that they won’t agree to, when they want to call it quits they’ll deal with it on their own.

Until then the war continues. No one’s happy about that but it’s better than any of the alternatives.

Totally. And the only ceasefire agreement that will be accepted when that happens, will basically be to freeze the current borders with maybe some minor changes to make the borders defensible areas like at rivers.

No reparations, no surrender of captured territory, those were never going to happen, and Putin or his successor would likely be removed from power if he agreed to it.

What’s a danger triangle? How do you find them? I know that there are some communities that only accept certain points of view even if it’s not stated in the description of the community. That’s kind of silly since it prevents exposure to various views. I hope this community is not like that.
