13·3 days agoWait, do those bona fide idiots reject gravity, too? I mean explicitly. Or, would they think the goats would stand perpendicular to the rim?
JFC, I hadn’t considered this before. So, the Earth is flat, because it looks flat from the ground, and down is down because it is. But the moon disc faces the Earth, which means it must be perpendicular to the Earth so “down” is local, but it’s not gravity? Is that it? Or, the Moon is spherical, but Earth isn’t? If there’s gravity, then what is on the other side of the Earth? Lemme guess, some bizzaro-world, alternate dimension?
Wow.
When I first heard about flat Earthers, I was certain it was parody, to the point that I didn’t realize it wasn’t for years afterward. It’s just so fucking ridiculous.
Kudos to the one guy I heard of that realized it was all bullshit when he saw the Earth from high up. It takes courage to admit you’re wrong about something so fundamental, but he owned up to it.

I tried the peanut butter thing when I was a teen. My dog wouldn’t do it.
Is this over-sharing? I never know.
There are better things to do with your time.
But, not much better.

Technology@lemmy.world•'It doesn’t catch fire': Why China’s "fireproof" sodium battery could be the breakthrough that makes EVs safer than ICE carsEnglish
5·4 days agohttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodium-ion_battery
Sodium-ion battery development took place in the 1970s and early 1980s. However, by the 1990s, lithium-ion batteries had demonstrated more commercial promise, causing interest in sodium-ion batteries to decline.[16][17] In the early 2010s, sodium-ion batteries experienced a resurgence, driven largely by the increasing cost of lithium-ion battery raw materials.[16] Also, the number of patent families reached the number of non-patent publication after ca. 2020, which usually signify the fact that the technology reached the commercialization stage.

12·4 days agoThey put a blanket over burning car, and any occupants trapped inside because of doors that wouldn’t unlock and laminated side glass, to keep it from igniting things around it. They’ll also pull the burning car onto a flatbed truck to get it off the road, and take it to somewhere safer.
This is opposed to just dousing a gas car with water till it stops burning.
Without due process?!
Well, yeah, that tracks.

I find it hard to think of any job that would feel meaningful, under capitalism–which is the only system I have experience with. Certainly no job I’ve ever had has felt so. Sure, I could lie to myself that looking at the work from a narrow view, from a certain angle, and in the right light, potential meaning beyond just making the rich richer, and eking out an existence for myself could be occasionally glimpsed, but that was always an obvious lie.
