      For about $30 at home depot and an afternoon in my shop I can make a functional shotgun. No need to fire up the printer to make a completely undocumented weapon. Take away all the ammunition, I have a recipe for black powder. Shot is easy to make. Also it is legal to fabricate your own firearm. This attempted legislation is stupid and pointless.

    The US does not have a ghost gun problem as guns are easy to get here, even in states with restricted gun ownership.

      Depends on who you ask. Dems consider “ghost guns” to be simply guns without serial numbers and there are plenty of those. That’s the benefit of making up and popularizing a new term, you get to then decide what it means.

        It’s not like serial numbers are all that useful. It doesn’t help solve a murder unless you already have ballistics for a weapon with that serial number. It might help you find a stolen gun if the person who reported it stolen even writes it down.

    3D printed guns kind of suck, if a person wanted to do something bad with a gun they’d be way better off with a manufactured one. Which are trivial to get in the United States. They don’t care about the guns at all, much like they don’t care about protecting the children. They are very much interested in spying on you (more)

    As someone who makes 3d models that print in multiple parts… There is no way any monitoring-software would know what you are printing unless you are using a file/model that’s being used to find people printing that exact model.

    But any alternations such as cutting the model up further or changing a few cosmetic features would make the model “unknown.”

    3d models are much more complicated than a 2d images. and ai can’t even tell the difference between a dick and anything flesh colored and long.

    Now I’m not dismissing the issue with this type of attempted restriction.

    But there is no way it could possibly be enforced.

    Nope I have zero concerns about “ghost guns” because the people with 3D printers are usually not in poverty, and poverty is the root cause of most crime. And because of how many already manufactured guns are in circulation, it’s like a drop in an ocean.

      I hadn’t really considered this but this does make a lot of sense. Poor people don’t have 3D printers or cnc machines.
