I was tested for adhd twice as a kid, it was inconclusive both times. As an adult it became clear that it was not adhd but bpd but I still feel like this post very accurately describes my life

I was tested for ADHD when I was an adult. The psychologist kinda laughed when he was going over the results with me because they were so bad.

Funny. ADHD is actually a recognized affliction in the DSM. And while BPD has been there for ages, it’s actually drawn a lot of criticisms over the years as many psychologists consider it to be a “grab bag” disorder and not a real thing.

The issue is that there is no real standardized “test” for ADHD. Most of the time it falls on the specific therapist or psychologist to make that judgement. The tests coming back “inconclusive” is a huge red flag tbh.

It’s a shame you’ve went through life with the wrong diagnosis ☹️

Is there really no standardized test? Does the therapist have to rely on their gut feeling then? That’s crazy.

I mean it’s sorta the case with a lot of disorders.

If you think your arm is broken, an X-ray will reveal if that’s the case. There’s not really a thing like that for mental disorders. So naturally you get a ton of bias.

Just for clarification are you saying that ADHD is often considered a “grab bag” or BPD is?

Reached out to a friend about a lecturing opportunity… forgot to reply to it for three days… now it’s two weeks later and I’m terrified.

    Fuck you, brain!

I feel this. I had projects I had to work on that I pushed off cause I didn’t think they were due any time soon. But also, I didn’t know when they were due. Cut to the day before they’re due and somebody asking me my ETA…

I have gotten much better about this btw.

Not me forgetting my work computer password, locking my account out, puttering around all day, then not wanting to bother our IT guy because it’s Friday afternoon and leaving it until Monday.
