i know this is already asked before, hope someone link me up. i am just a novice ubuntu user and i am getting familiar with terminal, but i am struggling with setting up this yml file and all… no fancy stuff: i just want to self host so i could avoid api rate limit error and browse limitlessly. i have a spare laptop on top of which i could run the server: my home wifi isnt very fast just i could afford to feed it 50kb/s down and 30kb/s up…idc if its slow as long as i could filtler what i am browsing. would i have to pay for a domain ? thanks.
You could try this: https://github.com/ubergeek77/Lemmy-Easy-Deploy
And yes you need a domain name.
Domains are usually quite cheap especially country specific ones like mine which i got for 0,60€ for one year
That’s crazy cheap indeed
I think .com was 1 for first year after that 12 per year
What was the TLD?
Edit: wait do you mean the .de on your lemmy domain?
Yes
okay then.thx.
This is the way.
Posted from my tiny VPS Lemmy instance.
How much storage are you using?
Right now about 15 GB.
There’s a guide on selfhosted@lemmy.world on the fixed posts
Thank you.
