Good grief. This is such a goofy time to be alive

Probably hurts his ego a little extra since this is the first US-born pope, too

Let’s start a club

Those must be some big tables

I don’t know man, I’m not a fan of infinite scroll

Heck yeah brother! Not in Nottingham is another good one to play
I also love that my wife got me a shirt with Skippy brandishing his wooden sword and his quote “DEATH TO TYRANTS!” on it. She’s a keeper for sure

I make it easy, I sit right out in the open by my sign playing songs from subversive pro terrorist media like Disney’s Robin Hood

I found out the other day that I had a mumble server still running that I had been tinkering with a year or so ago and just forgot about. Hadn’t noticed it was still running this whole time because it’s so low in resource usage

Return to Pidgin

Glad people who like the UI can get it in Matrix too but personally yeah, the Discord UI has never been one I’ve liked. Way to insist on being fullscreen at all times

Can’t wait til they’re blasted and shredded

Stay strong partner

Check out libera.chat, one of the most popular IRC networks today. Freenode suffered a hostile takeover and there was a mass migration away from it so I’d avoid that one

I think a big thing that made it catch on was the ease of joining. Just send someone a link and boom, they’re in the intended server. No immediate registration process, no buttons or commands to use, just a single click and entering a username. For all that I dislike Discord about, they did that part really well

Appreciate the info, thanks for taking the time to reply. I loved when Google was using XMPP for their chat just because that meant I could chat with people who insisted on using their Google accounts, without having to use one myself

I really want to love Matrix but man, it just feels janky. And this is from someone who likes IRC and XMPP. I can’t put my finger on why Matrix just doesn’t feel great, that’s the most frustrating part. Might be solvable with a decent client. I don’t like Element. Quaternion seems nice and simple but keeps crashing on me, and I don’t think it handles voice

I’d miss the history in my family server, but we’d get over it. If I can convince everyone else to move

I love IRC, just need some user friendly client recommendations if we want wider adoption by less tech savvy folks. Though I get the impression there are a good few IRC users who prefer how that filters out the “normies”
More options to refuse, nice
