I think ideas about prevention should be more concerned with the social engineering aspect of this attack. The code itself is certainly cleverly hidden, but any bad actor who gains the kind of access as Jia did could likely pull off something similar without duplicating their specific method or technique.

the only additional thing i’ve seen noted is a possibilty that they were using Arch based on investigation of the tarball that they provided to distro maintainers
if you feel comfortable mucking about in your BIOS, disabling TPM will pretty much guarantee they don’t spring 11 on you. they are really dead set on that requirement for some reason.

It’s not historical but medieval fantasy settings generally tend to be based around medieval European tropes. I guess I just assumed your problem was with period accuracy because there are variations in the accents. Karlach has a working-class accent, Asterion is posh, Shadowheart is middle class? british.
It could be more overt, I suppose, or incorporate more than just british regional accents, but I feel like they made more of an effort than you’re giving them credit for. I really disagree with any of it sounding like a theater troupe, though, save maybe Dame Aylin but that’s in-line with her character.
that is an extremely debatable, incredibly hot take. i wasn’t a fan of cloud and surface spam but lets not pretend that 5e’s combat is universally loved, either. larian made it work pretty well by sanding off some edges here and there but it’s, at best, a sidegrade.

Yeah I agree. They deserve a lot of credit for elevating D&D rather than relying on it to elevate the game. The result is greater than the sum of its parts; both D&D and Larian reached a wider audience through the collaboration.
Anyone who played Larian’s previous titles can tell you the only thing DnD brought to the table was a popular IP.

Not sure about your particular situation but there’s also the possibility that the bad CSS was good CSS when it was written and over time that got superseded by advancements in both technology and practice.
