It used to be consistent for years post-9/11. Rules were enforced more or less consistently. Especially the liquids rules. Some variations but not to the degree that it is at today. This chaos is only the past few years.

Strongly suspect it has nothing to do with security and everything to do with the system breaking down due to abysmal leadership.

Also probably the paid extortion programs like CLEAR which have separate relaxed rules standards for people who pay the extortion fee.

To me, the Reddit experience feels like shouting into the void now. Very much like alone in a crowded room (of mostly bots). You can go back and check if your posts and comments there had been blocked from being seen by others. It’s staggering how many posts and comments are blocked over there. You can see how many posts and comments from normal Redditors are hidden here: Reveddit.

Post stuff when you feel ready too! Your posts are needed because it’s just humans here. There’s no algorithm and there aren’t any bots reposting reposts.

If you weren’t there, Lemmy feels like Reddit 10 years ago in a good way.

I believe it. They disavow that they take any recordings of us before we approach but, while I’m not a suspicious person, I am suspicious of TSA and HLS. Heads up they’re going to start scanning our faces at physical border crossings in cars now too. We have the same right to refuse as citizens but you know how good that is if you’re dealing with a crooked agent.

In America you can refuse to have your biometrics scanned still. This is true for coming into and out internationally. Just politely say no. They cannot force you to scan your face. I always refuse.

I’m so sorry for the loss of your friend. I have a close relative that was just diagnosed with pancreatic cancer AND my friend’s dad was diagnosed too. They both slowly were losing weight and were forced into the doctor.

Yeah I could still comment normally to the chain itself and my comments. Other people in the thread were talking to me directly and normally. They were responding to my comments. I didn’t switch accounts to evade the block though. That’s so ridiculous I’m sorry someone bothered you like that.

I’ve never blocked anyone in the 12 years I was on Reddit. I’ll mock obvious bigoted trolls if they’re being actively terrible to people in my community. But that’s the limit for me engaging in an unhelpful back and forth. Usually they get bored within an hour or so when I stop giving them energy.

I’m sorry about the negative experience you’ve had on the other side of it. I think it’s pretty clear that the ability to block someone and not interact with them is important but the way it’s implemented is a crappy experience for everyone. Not to mention it seems easily exploitable.

I definitely experienced this last month. I had a weirdo block me randomly because I happen to not be a fan of historical figure, Aaron Burr. They apparently really really like Aaron Burr—so they blocked me. Whatever.

I didn’t get a notification or anything. It just looked like they’d deleted their account and never existed on my side. Ok. I shrugged and thought it was a weird UI thing and moved on.

That was until I started talking to other people and the Blocker kept unblocking me to leave me more messages only to immediately Reblock me.

I knew this was happening because I would get an email alert that I had a comment. But when I went to see the comment on Reddit, it was gone.

I don’t even know or understand what the Blocker wanted from me (except maybe falling in love with Aaron Burr-which isn’t on the table —he’s not my type).

In practice, this new policy ended up having the Blocker spam the person they’re Blocking and removing their ability to prevent being spammed.

Dude I’ve never blocked anyone or had any real trouble on any site or forum. The only time I’ve had trouble is on Reddit and only over the last 3-months. Good riddance.

I have been wondering the same thing. It would be useful to have an active docket of the DOJ for all cases against large corporations and how many now lose steam or have the lead attorneys replaced.

I also worry about the whistleblower program. If you are a corporate whistleblower, if the government wins on your tip you get around 15%-ish of the takings. So, whistleblowing on something big enough can net you a few million USD or more. Something else to watch. I assume this will break quickly too under this administration.

I’ve gotten an admin auto ban from a sub recently. That sent me a mail directly. (The sub mobs overturned it.)

The other bans I got from subs were like you say—banned from the sub it’s elf (like for commenting in another sub) depended on whether or not they decided to push mail.

Interesting. Links to a go fund me are theorized to be interlopers or maybe people just using this to try to get money—as it deviates from the original iteration.
