The iphone/non-iphone situation is utterly insane to me. I am constantly being punished for not having an iphone, be it texting or airdrop. These things should be standardized and interoperable, not owned commodities by companies. Grrr.
Reddit’s bigger communities are a kind of double-speak: r/funny is anything but, for instance.
I imagine that this public reddit doesn’t care about that; They are instead interested tn engagement and sinjing to the lowest common denominator. Quality control only matters when it hurts engagement.
And don’t forget the CLA!
All of reddit’s newer design is the definition of asshole design. Once old.reddit.com is killed off the site will be as unusable as X or TikTok is on web for logged out users.
I don’t disagree with that statement; however, that doesn’t make it something the general public will embrace. Its mess of extensions are top little too late. That ship has long sailed. And I say this as someone that prefers using XMPP for 1:1 chats
Indeed. Xmpp is lost as a general purpose chat app for everyone. I have many issues with matrix but it’s the best chance we have, particularly with bridges.
That’s good to hear, and I really would love for things to get sorted out. Gimp 3.x has many improvements for sure but there’s a long way to go and actually releasing these improvements is necessary…
If gimp can become another blender that would be incredible.

They’ve been completely dropping the ball for years. I used to donate regularly but have completely given up on this project. It’s a farce at this point.
Thankfully I only have simple needs so Krita suffices and I don’t have to deal with the never-improving UX nightmare and never-releasing changes.

Yeah, I’m not too fond of that statement. I respect ddevault, particularly since I have seen his serious growth into a mature, empathetic person. So ICM surprised that this made it into the post.
I find the hate for Gutenberg to be overblown. I don’t see how it is difficult to write… You just type like any other input field. It separates out to paragraphs but it isn’t something so massively different that it changes the paradigm. Weird.
But this converter will be very handy for some very old documents I obtained and gave up on scripting conversions for.
It’s not that they necessarily care, it’s that it’s the assumed default. So then I have to respond with “I can’t do that, can you upload it here?” it makes me the odd one out making people jump through hoops.
