I don’t mind prioritizing the guest over the host. So, that is how I operate in my home and no one is being rude. Not that either approach is wrong. But, given the rudeness I’ve encountered here it dosen’t feel like avoiding rudeness is the driving factor.
It’s not a demand at all from me and no need to be rude, but yes, some do.
Guests take precedence. That’s my cultural position. Otherwise, I do whatever I want in my home and clean up after as habit, regardless. Sometimes I wear shoes.

Agreed. I just think the guest takes precedence. It is a privilege to have them, and not taking off shoes isn’t really a big deal to us.

This is just not true. It is not absolute nor ubiquitous like that. I think the commenter was right who said it is the view from TV and the internet. A funhouse mirror version of some true things taken as reality.
The US is large, diverse, and has a ton of cultural influence from all over. Micro and macro. An amalgam. Mass production and corporate influence notwithstanding, surmising that it is one bad thing is very simplistic and limiting.

First step is to start, though. Gathering tools, strategies, and new habits is a process that has to start somewhere. Easy said than done, of course, but even easier to ignore.

Cook with the kids as soon as we get home. Multitasking is actually good decompression for me.
