sanpedropeddler@sh.itjust.workstoLemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•The one drawback to walking at night
10446·1 year agoGross to me that multiple comments here are ignoring this reality. Crimes committed by men against women in situations like that are so common that women aren’t protecting themselves unless they consider every unfamiliar man a potential threat.
Obviously women can also commit crimes against men, but its so much less common that I don’t have to take precautions to protect myself against them.
As a man it kind of sucks when you are assumed to be dangerous even when you aren’t, but you need to get over it. Its not worth it for women to compromise their safety, and assume you to not be a threat just to make you feel better.

375·1 year agoYou mean women are also capable of committing crimes? I’m gonna need some more sources for an outlandish take like that.
I’ve seen boomers complain about a lot of things, but young people’s propensity for addiction is not one of them.

3·1 year agoNo, because Facebook is not explicitly designed for the sole purpose of illegal transactions. Very clear difference.

82·1 year agoI think its slightly dishonest to frame this as him simply “creating a website”. He created a marketplace to sell drugs on, I just don’t understand the sympathy. I feel bad for low level drug dealers in jail, this guy not so much.
I would agree it could’ve been handled differently, same with every other aspect of the war on drugs. But celebrating this guy is a step too far for me.

84·1 year agoWhy are people in support of this guy?
Banjo slander should not be tolerated
I am indifferent. That guy wasn’t the problem, its the system that allows him to exist. This sends a message but all I see it doing is convincing wealthy capitalists to invest more in their protection.
Not really technically. One is a physical attribute, and the other is a measure of wealth. Those aren’t even remotely close to being hobbies. You just brought them up because you think women are shallow, which is probably the real reason they don’t like you.
sanpedropeddler@sh.itjust.workstoLemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Guess what this product is without looking up what it is!
33·1 year agoI use pomade and it surprised me how often its branded like that. I have seen at least three brands that unironically use flaming skeletons. Also I have to say dapper dan is not great (at least the modern kind).
Edit: Apparently the modern kind is the only kind. O Brother just made it up, and someone took the design and made it real in 2011.

1·1 year agoMy public school in Louisiana had very similar toilet paper. I’m not sure if its actually the same, but it certainly looks like it.

11·1 year agoSo you do know what I’ve been talking about, you just purposely ignored it because you think its invalid? You could not have possibly done a better job at demonstrating to me that you are arguing in bad faith.

1·1 year agoI don’t care that you think we should switch to metric, you said that Americans aren’t switching purely because they hate change, and they don’t care about the potential benefits just because they hate change so damn much. This is what I’ve been arguing against. I honestly have no idea how you could have read all of that and come to the conclusion I’m arguing against the metric system. Every word of it is about why Americans don’t think the switch is worth it.

1·1 year agoBy continuing to act like this you are preventing any actual conversation from taking place. You might as well just say “you’re wrong, no I will not elaborate”. If you’re not interested in having a conversation then don’t respond, no one is forcing you to do this.
If you would like to have a less sarcastic and rude discussion, I’ll be here.

1·1 year agoAmerican are willing to change things, we just pick what to change, and we aren’t being inconvenienced by this nearly enough to change it.

13·1 year agoWe are used to 2 liter bottles, so we still use them. We run 5ks because its been a standard distance to run for a long time. Other countries also do similar things, old habits die hard.
We use metric for science and medicine because the benefits of metric are much more pronounced for those use cases.
Honestly, using both really isnt that hard. Its only really an inconvenience if you aren’t already used to it. We aren’t changing it because we’re getting along just fine the way things are, and there are much bigger problems to be solved.
I get our healthcare system sucks but it isn’t worse than countless children dying of malaria.
It might belong there depending on what they mean by easy. Its pretty vague

I know everyone here says that this is somewhat safe because the employees are told not to interfere. But what you really need to worry about is the store building a case against you across multiple instances of shoplifting, and then reporting you to the police as soon as you’ve stolen a felony amount.
