Even if you buy a DVD, the only thing you are “buying” is the physical media and a license to operate the softwate. You don’t own the software stored on the media, you must use it in accordance with the license agreement or potentially face legal action. The main thing about digital storefronts is that it’s easier to revoke the license.

Interesting, I make sets of 10. When I see 7 and 6, half of the 6 moves over to make 10 + 3. I say “moves over” because it feels like dividing tokens into sets in my head.

There are so many D&D locations even within the Forgotten Realms, and a ton of other settings with their own cool stuff. Why do another Baldur’s Gate so soon? Taking a different direction might also blunt some of the inevitable criticism that it “isn’t as good as BG3.”

It’s just ARK but with cute monsters instead of dinosaurs, right? My PC is on the fritz so I can’t check it out, but the Youtube videos I’ve seen look pretty ARK-y. I’m a little surprised it’s doing so well, I thought the survival-crafting genre was getting a bit played out.

However, the linchpin that really riled up gamers was when they realized The Day Before wasn’t actually an MMO but an extraction shooter zombie game, despite what previous advertisements would have you believe.
Is an extraction shooter not a kind of MMO? Is it because, although there are many players, there are only a limited number of players per map?
If that’s the case, then there are a bunch of games I think of as MMOs that aren’t, like Phantasy Star Online and Path of Exile.
This is the first I’ve heard of Jumplight Odyssey. It looks potentially cool, but $30 for an early access title is a big ask in a year completely saturated with banger games, and based on the reviews it seems to need a bit more time before it is really ready. I’m not surprised, then, that it didn’t do as well as they hoped: if they hadn’t just announced that they’re stopping development, I would have put it on my wishlist to come back to in a year or two when it’s feature-complete, and when hopefully I’m not in the middle of so many other games already. If that’s a typical response, they probably didn’t get many sales.

I played a bit early on and I used to enjoy popping into a game every once in a while, but it started to feel like I had to relearn the entire game every time, so I eventually stopped. I know the updates are aimed at people who play regularly, but they make it really hard for returning players.
