Yeah I think they’re already off the cliff arms flailing.
Yeah I think they’re already off the cliff arms flailing.
I won’t go out of my way to insult. The best revenge is to just move on and forget. I understand the motivation because some people feel a genuine loss. In my case I only used Reddit for a few years and it was never a big part of my free time activity so it was pretty easy for me to do that.
I think it would take half as long to die as it did to become a monolith. It’s almost twenty so ten years. But I don’t know, could happen faster. I’d say for sure it’s not going to get any bigger. How much growth have the other major media sites seen since the profit mongering started?
I agree with the point that people can be rabid about their belief in hard left ideals. Isn’t that like trying to terrorize people into a subscribed ideology? There’s a word for that.
I mean I think it’s fine for people to have differing opinions about social issues, but when they try to hurt people in any way they can because they don’t agree, that’s just wrong. My position on an issue can be changed through an intelligent argument, but attacking me is going to make me dig hooves into the turf.
Even on Lemmy there’s a hard left slant.
I don’t think I’d say hard left, but probably left to some extent.
I’m actually kind of odd in that I can be hard left on some issues and hard right on others. In any case, when I make right hand comments they seem to be tolerated here. The hard left stuff I don’t agree with I just gloss over, I’m good.
Life can suck, but it can really suck when you have financial problems.
Personally I think human beings would be a lot happier if money did not exist. I don’t appreciate money past the extent it provides for my needs. As long as I can pay my bills I’m good. I simply don’t understand the obsession people have with money, but then it’s also a means to power. So basically it comes down to an obsession with power and control. What human trait defines an asshole better than that.
If he’s just looking to cash out and move on then what he’s doing makes sense. Otherwise it’s insanity. He’ll be going down with the ship. As far as investors, I think it’s mostly speculation.
Discord is good for live chat, but horrible for aggregation and public discussion. I mean that’s why most of us are here, because the platform works well for our needs. Supposedly Discord has a forum, but I’ve never seen a link to it on the regular site and from what I understand it doesn’t get much traffic. It’s simply not in a position to be an alternative to Reddit.
It wasn’t just that, they followed with other changes that alienated mods and users. The API thing was just the beginning of a campaign. It’s not even something new, this kind of downfall has happened before when social media sites prioritize profit above community. They had a good run and outlasted those that preceded them, but evidently the cycle is doomed to repeat.
Even the people that haven’t left Reddit seem seem to be pretty hostile toward Reddit. It’s like why are you still here? You can make more of a statement by leaving.
BTW, thanks for the Reddit free link, don’t want to even give them my traffic.
That guy was a backyard inventor and charlatan, like those 19th century backyard aircraft inventors. It's one thing to take yourself out of the gene pool through your own recklessness, it's another to take others with you.
Rush bypassed over a hundred years of engineering lessons learned the hard way with the rationale it stifles innovation. He even fired and sued one of his own employees for calling him out on it. The sub had zero certifications and then he lied to customers about it saying his designs were approved by NASA and Boeing who never even heard of the guy.
Aside from the lack of safety engineering and lack of proper fail-safes in his design, there's a reason engineers don't use carbon fiber composites in subs. They have a tendency to delaminate. When used in aircraft, composites have to be examined and certified at a regular service interval with special inspection equipment.
I think that sub was an accident waiting to happen from day one. The hull probably failed due to inspection negligence and a failure to detect delamination. That's even if the hull could have been rated properly for 4km. If it wasn't the hull, it would been one of the other jury-rigged systems.
I can't believe people smart enough to acquire the wealth for that excursion weren't smart enough to check out the qualifications of the company hosting it. I think it was plainly obvious just looking at the sub yourself. A navigation system that consists of a consumer laptop PC and Logitech gaming controller should have been a dead giveaway.
Same here, found out about Lemmy on Reddit, but some time ago in discussion about where to go if Reddit bans a sub. Didn’t actually start using Lemmy until shit hit the fan.
