They’ve sold 117 million PS4s and 59 million PS5s.
They take a 30% cut on each game sold on the PlayStation store. That’s $18 for every $60 game sold.
If every one of those people bought just one game per year, Sony brings in $3,006,000,000 every year. Even if only half of gamers buy one game per year, that’s still an insane amount of money.
Corporate greed on full display. And don’t tell me it’s because of game development costs. Because:
The next game, which is a fan-favourite is Uncharted 4. This game needed $40 million to be completed, and after its release, it made around $1 billion.
And the best of them all, Marvel Spider-Man. This game cost $100 million to be developed, and when it was released, it made a whopping $6.8 billion.
Sony-funded games are wildly profitable.
2·8 months agoThe biggest problem is that federation splits the communities between instances. So a single interest may have 5-10 different communities, all with fewer users than on an equivalent subreddit.
I’ve been saying this since the beginning, Lemmy needs a way to follow topics that allow you to subscribe to all related communities at once. And posting to a topic on one community allows it to show up across different communities of the same topic.
3·9 months agoYou don’t really with physical these days either, at least not with video games. Lots of games require online services to play then and become bricked when the servers are shut down.
And then most of the time, a disk doesn’t even have the game on it. It’s essentially just a download license for you to download the actual game digitally. It’s all an ownership scam.
It really warms my heart to see unions coming back strong.
They’re the baristas. Because at least they can make latte art while they scrounge for tips from the tip jar.
I see that rogue Google Play Music icon there. Makes me sad they killed it.
What’s the last game Ubisoft came out with that had any real success in the public gaming consciousness?

1·9 months agoIt’s only a first version. I’m sure with time, it’ll get even better.
What species works 9-5? I’d love to have more time off.
People are literally only asking for the same console, a few refinements, and with better performing internals.
The form factor is excellent, if a bit flimsy. But games like TOTK and whatever next 3D Mario game comes out deserve to have better graphical fidelity than what the current switch can put out. I stopped playing TOTK because I just kept getting framerate drops.
Please give the Switch 2 more powerful internals!
It’s not just contrast though. It’s weather effects, particle effects, details in textures on the roads, buildings, and other objects.
Camera effects are better, animations are more dynamic, lighting is way more contrasty, but tasteful. There’s also much more detail in distant buildings, making the world feel much bigger than it is.
Rocksteady did a killer job with the Arkham games and the suicide squad game is just not even close.
And after a month, you realized that you Pavloved yourself into thinking your phone was ringing and hating the song when you heard it casually.
It’s like using your favorite song as an alarm. Don’t know how that doesn’t ruin those songs for people.
I couldn’t justify $14 a month for YT Premium especially when YT Music sucks so much. And it’s very likely just going to get more expensive.
If they could stop bundling them both together and give me an option to just get rid of ads, I’d probably go back to paying. But for now, NewPipe is a way better experience.

And there’s never been a worse time to be making them.
The industry keeps consolidating and there were a ton of layoffs, despite great profits.
This year was great, but sad.
It’s better than arguing with the customer.
Simple explanations like “we felt we were under X constraints” or “our engine didn’t handle the loading times as well as we had hoped” would be just fine.
Instead, they just seem to be telling the players they’re wrong for disagreeing with many of the design decisions made
This makes me realize that I can’t think of hardly any videogames with a black character at the forefront.
Sure, there are black playable characters in MOBAs and MMOs, but how many story-driven games have black characters at the forefront?
The most recent one I can think of is Alan Wake 2. And Spider-Man Miles Morales. But there really are so few compared to those with white main characters. Which is sad.
