After I left Bazzite as “my first Linux” I landed on Garuda. It is Arch based, is gaming and performance focused, comes with different desktop environment options, has pacman and works well with pamac, and has been noob friendly.
No ragrets.

Garuda has been easy and stable for me. It’s gaming and performance focused though, so how well that works for you could depend on your laptop.
On the one hand, I feel your pain, on the other hand… You could have just reinstalled Garuda and chosen a password using characters that exist on a US keyboard to get it all set up before switching your keyboard layout to the one you want and then updating the password.
Sorry the journey has been so rough.

Anyone have experience with Garuda? It’s where I landed after Bazzite and while I think it’s great, I don’t have a lot of experience. I’d love to know how it compares to cachy.
I mentioned it because a lot of people already have a card they need to accommodate, not to try and convince you.
I mean … it’s not required. So, good for you, I guess.
After I left Bazzite I switched to Garuda, it is also gaming and performance focused, works with Nvidia, and has been super easy as a beginner.
It may be worth a look.

I keep looking for something better, and yes it has some limitations, but the free online version of SketchUp is the easiest and most intuitive 3d design program I have ever used and I keep coming back to it.
You need to set up a free Trimble account to use it, don’t let that stop you from giving it a try

Keep your eye open for opportunities to advocate for Linux in the workplace, change will come.
Windows said they were going to force AI into the OS, so I left.
I installed Bazzite, it was easy and just worked, but I decided I didn’t like immutability. So I installed Garuda, and it was also easy and just worked, even with an Nvidia card.
So now I’m on Linux and run a bunch of windows games with proton and they also work.

After I left Bazzite i switched to Garuda, which is also gaming and performance focused. I also chose the xfce option, which has been great.
If your are considering switching, give Garuda a look. I’m also on a gigabyte board with an Nvidia card.

Garuda is Arch, and is also focused on being super easy, gaming focused, and performance tuned. It’s not immutable though.
Foundry has so many game systems, even systems like custom system builder, which let you make your own.
If all you want is spreadsheets, why not use shared Google docs or something?
After breaking my hard drive with Bazzite not understanding immutability and trying to bypass it with permissions changes,I switched to Garuda as a beginner. It’s Arch based.
It has been easy, gaming just works, updates just work, it came with the drivers I need.
All this Arch hate needs to go away. It’s not what it was. I haven’t had to learn anything more complicated than Windows was.
As you are researching, take a look at Garuda. It is beginner friendly, gaming and performance focused, has good helper apps, and is Arch based so it is getting frequent updates.
I’ve been using it as a beginner for over a year and it has been capable, stable, and easy.
If you are used to steam os, also check out Bazzite, it is designed to be a similar experience.

I’d say you’re first job is to determine what you don’t want. Google the differences between distros and pick the philosophy you like. Some have corporate backing, some favor stability, some stay cutting edge, some are more community developed, etc.
I started with Bazzite (Fedora) and switched to Garuda (Arch). What got me to each was researching “best gaming Linux” and later deciding I didn’t want immutability.
I mainly just wanted it to work right out of the box, but now that I have it I also love that Arch is always keeping me up to date. There is still a lot of fear mongering about Arch, but Garuda was just as easy as Bazzite, which is recommended for beginners all the time.
I think Garuda is amazing, and recommend it wholeheartedly, but no matter what you choose there will be some learning curve, so pick something that sounds cool to you so you stay motivated to figure it out.
I use Garuda, it’s Arch and is just as easy as Bazzite.
I use Garuda. Yes, it’s Arch based, but it’s also all set up for gaming and newbie friendly. I started on Bazzite, then switched to Garuda, it’s just as easy.

We have passed the point where it has to be complicated. If you choose something like Garuda, Bazzite, or Mint, it should be a pretty straightforward switch.
You don’t need the cops, you need the FBI. They have people who can actually understand the jargon and follow up.
