Technology@lemmy.world•House Republicans Investigate Wikipedia Over Alleged BiasEnglish
81·3 months agoIt’s funny, because they clearly have the idea in their head that Wikipedia is a single organization capable of an ideological bias. When if you take a single look at some talk pages, it would become clear very quickly that Wikipedia is built on people vociferously disagreeing and bringing sources to make the information presented ever more credible and unbiased.

Technology@lemmy.world•Nvidia Sales Jump 56%, a Sign the A.I. Boom Isn’t Slowing DownEnglish
9·4 months agoHow do I short Nvidia so I can cash in on the bubble’s inevitable burst?
Thanks, I’ll do my best! o7
Yeah, I buy CDs or vinyl quite often. I’ve got a few cassette tapes kicking around too. Bandcamp is also a good option to genuinely purchase the digital files
Sometimes I like to purchase music, for artists that I’m a big fan of and want to financially support.
I am very happy with my recent switch from Spotify to TIDAL
Well, for me personally, since I’m an anarchist, I’d rather have neither. Power corrupts, and giving too much unchecked power to any individual will lead to harm. Even FDR, one of America’s “best” presidents, also oversaw redlining and the Japanese internment camps.
Ah yes, Eisenhower, famously a good guy for running fucking Operation Wetback.

Technology@lemmy.world•What happens when chatbots shape your reality? Concerns are growing onlineEnglish
2·4 months agoYeah, I agree that the left and liberals are broadly opposed to AI, and the right dove in headfirst. I just don’t get how lacking the ability to spew shitty cat videos and deepfakes means we on the left are hampering our own progress.

6·4 months agoFalling behind in what way? Financial advantage? I’m not sure that the left have ever had that. How would adopting AI aid the left’s cause?

4·4 months agoJust for my own education, if you don’t mind - how were you able to tell someone was hammering on the port if it was closed? Would fail2ban have been an option to stop them?

2·4 months agoHaha okay, thanks! And I’d just forward ports 80 and 443 from the router to ports 80 and 443 on the Pi’s internal IP address in the router settings, right?

81·4 months agoThanks for the tip! I’ll back the refresh rate off to be safe.
I’m not sure I entirely understand your concern about putting Jellyfin on the internet. A large part of my interest in selfhosting is being able host my own music library, my own cloud storage, etc, and access it as an alternative to Spotify or Google Drive. Doesn’t that inherently mean that they need to be on the internet, if I want to be able to access them when I’m away from home?
My goal has been to find a way to do that safely, but if that’s not possible, that’s good to know too, so I don’t keep trying to do the impossible.

2·4 months agoCorrect. I’d like to make it available to myself and any family members or friends I share it with, but not the wider world

Hey, look, it’s me!
Thanks so much, Mom, for thinking that prayer and church are the way to fix things, not medication and therapy 🙃
