The question is, numbers-wise, how many of us actually left reddit?
this speaks to me on an emotional level

firefox and google chrome nowadays use very similar amounts of resources. However, firefox is (for now) less cringe than google chrome.
in the interest of absolute pedantry, I’d like to point out that they do, in fact, have a publicly available API — it just costs money to use.
Now, on one hand, it’s only 24 cents per 1000 API calls (which is very little for individual use, but adds up quickly for any sort of widely used tool or service). On the other hand, fuck reddit lol.
thank you for the info, noted, incredibly based
They make them money because:
Now, if enough people go commit ad-block, and advertisers somehow become wise to that fact… then maybe it will hurt reddit’s bottom line (at which point spez will start trying to emulate youtube’s anti-ad stuff).
But as it stands, especially if most of reddit’s usage is through reddit’s mobile app… I’m not really sure how you can block ads there.
what are these awful, awful communities I should be staying away from
No, the correct answer is “fuck both of them”. You don’t need Twitter, you definitely don’t need Threads.
You don’t even need Mastodon for that matter. You don’t need a constant drip feed of dopamine. If you need to stay informed, you can just use news sites or something.
oh wow, fucking lol
wait, isn’t that for their shitty VR headset?
Unfortunately, Threads is run by a very, very shitty corporation that sees you, me, and the rest of the fediverse as a new market to expand into (i.e. fresh meat). I wouldn’t blame people from defederating with them — their incentives will clearly push them to violate many instances’ rules against advertising.
