AI is literally just legalized theft of other people’s work. It won’t credit them to any capacity.

Also, whilst it is adding some productivity, it’s also being used by absolute idiots who have no idea what they’re doing spreading bad info and causing other people more work.

Every idiot is typing everything into chatgpt, getting a bad answer which is obvious to anyone half trained and then promoting it like it’s correct just because AI said it

  • How many are bots?

Its like facebook. Engagement is up, audience is increased, but, its likely by a small number of people. I started noticing that in the Aussie subs, that every week, near the weekend (right before night), there were obvious lobbyist posts, which suddenly shot up (stuff like pro guns, pro- one nation etc). At this point, our local racism party was clearly doing heavy lobbying on the platform (despite losing 30 years of elections, based on reddit, you’d think they were #1).

Like facebook, a lot of people are switching off now, and trying to find alternatives.

Moderation has also gotten really bad recently. I had an account for 14+ years, never got banned. Made a new account, and within a few months, I got a temp ban for apparently being racist (despite the fact, I spent a lot of time arguing AGAINST racism).

On facebook in fact, on the heatpump posts, I actually noticed 1 or 2 names pop up on almost all the adverts saying they were an engineer, and that heatpumps don’t work, etc (with bad info). Reddit allows infinite accounts, and no doubt, it is not much better there

I was actually selling Apple gear when they released the Mighty mouse. It sounded AWESOME. We were so excited. On their ads, it sounded like we’d get a product with touchpad buttons basically that killed their previous (worse) puck mice.

What we got, was an overpriced mouse which was near-damned impossible to click the right button (you got RSI every time you tried) and which was physical click.

Microsoft’s super cheap basic mice we sold 10x faster (at least), and were 1/3rd the price

The reality is, they really f*** up most of their products, but people make excuses for them. Even the iPod shuffle, there were good cheap alternatives (I had one), and mine even had a display. OSX 10 used to have corrupt preferences regularly, SMB was crap until at least OSX 10.5, etc. One release, there was a bug where the network broke completely after a few minutes (there is no way anyone couldn’t have noticed during testing)

My Mac Studio M2 was the only computer I have ever had that had compatibility issues with some USB-C cables (and, it was a few of them from differing brands). Antenna gate, and they tried to water down the problems, by comparing to other manufacturers and said “if you hold them in this totally unrealistic way, you have similar issues”
