2·9 months agoRegarding social media feeds, I have mixed opinions, because you’re right about the echo chamber, but I also am only still on any mainstream platform for the memes, and I only want it to show me memes, which it wouldn’t do if not for personalized recommendations.
As for games, I don’t want my recommendations to be dominated by whatever has the biggest marketing budget and can take over my feed. I mostly play indie games, and I think if my store page wasn’t personalized, I wouldn’t see nearly as many small games as I do.

1·9 months agoWould you be willing to share why you don’t like the “corpo spying”? I personally never understood - an online service has to know your requests in order to serve the results to you, and keeping revords of those requests is the only way to have personalized recommendations, which I would rather have than be served ads for games (or music or whatever) I’ll never even consider.

5·1 year agoIt seems that several employees of Nexon left and recreated a game that Nexon had been working on, down to buying the same Unreal assets. I saw somewhere (but I have no source so this might be inaccurate) that as part of the legal proceedings, the Dark and Darker team were ordered to provide documentation about the early stages of creating the game as proof of originality, and they had nothing to show.
The trick is to throw yourself at the ground and miss

9·2 years agoI dropped KCD 1 after ~30 hours for the same reason as you, but at least KCD has some justification - the whole point of the game is to be an ultra-realistic simulation of medieval life, a roleplaying game in the truest sense of the word.
Your character starts out not even knowing how to read, even though you, the player, obviously do to interact with the GUI. He’s the son of a blacksmith who never would have learned anything else, so he, the character, has to spend time learning basically everything, even if you, the player, already have it figured out.
You and I think that design is unfun. Clearly, though, there’s an audience for it, as KCD 2 sold something like a million copies on launch day and instantly recouped their development costs.
For AAA games, discs have just been fancy download codes for the last decade. I don’t understand getting upset is now; if these retailers were going to “honor the people who pay their hard earned money to purchase it,” they should’ve started complaining a long time ago.
