Yepp. There is a gap. I have been waiting for you to open this position - why was it not done sooner?

Technology@lemmy.world•I spent a year on Linux and forgot to miss WindowsEnglish
1·1 month agoTo me it was like, oh, you made it different and that makes so much more sense, why are they not doing it like that in Windows? Or just during university; there is a tool for that format? And it is already installed? Nice.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Why isn't using a key file the most common way to log into self-hosted servers?English
92·1 month ago- You need the file everywhere. So when lunch time on work I can’t login, it is not my computer but the company machine. Yes, i have my smartphone with me I dont want to send that file to work.
- Easier with password. Easy to setup and to reuse a long password that you already have.
- My ssh server is not reachable easily. Ip restrictions goes a long way and Wireguard is good.

Technology@lemmy.world•Explained: Why you can't move Windows 11 taskbar like Windows 10, according to MicrosoftEnglish
9·2 months agoNotably, Windows 10 could do the same thing without any visible issues. And that’s probably because Windows 10 was a much lighter OS than Windows 11.
There is nothing wrong with being lightweight.
Maybe, just maybe, making the startmenu in React is not the best idea.
I got tired of having an OS that is working against me. That is not a healthy relationship. With Linux you can really see there is a shift in the mindset. User experience is prioritized and you are allowed to do what you want wherever you want to. This means for example things like running a live iso, installing the OS and surfing the web at the same time is possible. I can remap the super key, and other keys. Oh, tiling Window manager exist like hyperland. Omarchy. And how about tabs in the file explorer. Why did not Microsoft implement it 20 years ago like when it came to Linux.
Let it fall. People will then finally understand that this solution is not good. Decentraltion is the original design of the Internet.
Ctrl + a or crtl + e is start or end of line?

2·4 months agoYes, competition is good.
It is just a problem when the competition is big tech and can ignore everybody else as they get even more money from somewhere else like Azure.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Using rsync for backups, because it's not shiny and newEnglish
51·5 months agoI think the there are better alternatives for backup like kopia and restic. Even seafile. Want protection against ransomware, storage compression, encryption, versioning, sync upon write and block deduplication.

Technology@lemmy.world•Head of the Signal app threatens to withdraw from EuropeEnglish
26·5 months agoIf the law is implemented, I would selfhost my own chat server. I don’t see this as Signal fault.
But everybody can`t selfhost. That is a problem I am struggling with.
I am now sure what I would do about email, I assume it is affected as well?

Linux@lemmy.ml•Containers in 2025: Docker vs. Podman for Modern Developers | Linux Journal
2·6 months agoI tried to switch to podman one year ago but my compose file failed. I use advanced networking where i want all traffic coming from specific source ip, including DNS. When they fix that, then i will switch as i no longer have any container that requires root.
Mio@feddit.nutoLemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•HR people smiling at you thinking that you are a complete moron
9·6 months agoIt would be nice to get some time in advance as notice. Like Trump get 4 years as he can’t be fired for some unknown reason even though he has and is still doing illegal things(tarifs without kongress approval etc.)…

26·6 months agoJust deline the invite and you are safe ;)
What can the users do about it? Maybe it is time to look into more distribution systems instead?
And all the other things they spend billions on. Guess what? Most of it is not good for the environment. It is just that the rich can do a lot of the bad stuff.
What if the super rich had to compensate climate wise with 1:100. They can afford it. Or if they actually have to compensate for all the damage done to create their wealth. Think of all plastic going through Amazon…
I am glad someone can admit it failed and we have to learn from this. I am just wondering what it takes to succeed.

1·7 months agoWow. Impressive. And in Sweden we are only 2% or something like that. Why so many in Norway. How did you do it?

201·7 months agoBut it is only in the US and not globally. Anyway, competition is good.
Please explain. They don’t have that?
