I remember I made a thread asking for advice running an older version of Linux for funsies and to experience it and unironically someone said something along those lines to me, like “uhm Linux isn’t windows you can use modern packages and new distros support older hardware” like ughh

I use macvtaps in my homelab for vulnerable VMs because no matter how I set up the bridges or what guide I followed it just broke networking every time on a headless server that’s a massive pain to fix.

Wish I knew about macvtaps from the get-go, it was a dead giveaway that bridges are some demonic shit on Linux as every guide was different, and for every guide there was always some people on Reddit saying how it didn’t work for them at all.

I haven’t found myself missing hard-corpo software in a while but in that moment I really wished I was just using VMware on windows where creating a bridge interface takes one click instead of janky virsh syntax and messing with ifconfig etc.

Definitely not how it works for me and I’ve never used key Auth.

Idk why my comment was removed. I just said most internet traffic is chinese bots which are not sentient so they’re okay with using IPv6 instead of IPv4 like people do.

IPv4 exhaustion is ofc a problem. But IPv6 discarding NAT is like throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Hmm, how about we have public facing IPv6 to gateway and then NAT to IPv4 internally. I wouldn’t have a problem with it then. In general I wouldn’t even have a problem with IPv6 or v8 or whatever even internally as long as we’ll always have NAT.

Seems like the most universal way is: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=“ipv6.disable=1 quiet splash”
