6·8 days agoThis may sound dumb, but wouldn’t it appear to anyone listening between the client and VPN as though all traffic is coming from the VPN and not the website? Isn’t that the point of a VPN?

Linux@lemmy.ml•Curious about the relationship between Red Hat and FedoraEnglish
21·8 days agoThe highly abridged version is that Red Hat pays for and helps with developing Fedora and makes their money from providing support to companies that use it.
If they stopped supporting Fedora (would kind of kill their business model but let’s pretend) anyone could “fork” it and continue working on their own version just like other distros.

10·9 days agoYes, Square is a product that Block sells. Block was actually called “Square” until relatively recently and Jack Dorsey became obsessed with Blockchain.

1·9 days agoImmutability just means the system files can’t be edited easily. Basically every time you update you’re updating the entire OS all at once. Which is a good way to keep things stable while also modern!
Unless there’s an application not available via Appimage or Flatpak (“app store”), most users will never even come up against the immutability aspect.

4·9 days agoThey own Square which is a card processing service typically used by small vendors. If you’ve ever gone to a festival or concert merch table or farmers market and they accepted credit card, it was probably Square.

7·9 days agoThey own Square which you’ve almost certainly used if you ever paid a small vendor via a payment card (as opposed to cash).

Reddit@lemmy.world•Reddit decides to remove r/allEnglish
244·9 days agoAnd nothing of value was lost
EDIT: After reading the comments in this thread I think I should elaborate…
The only thing that makes Reddit not X or Facebook are their niche communities. For years, Reddit corporate has been moving to homogenize them and shove them all into a single algorithmic slop feed that auto-adjusts to what you linger on like Tiktok. /r/all and /r/popular are basically just endless slop feeds of bots reposing engagement bait for people with brain rot to look at while they poop. But having slop and topic-based communities in a single feed invites those brainrotted people to jump into any community they are not a member of and vomit all over it without learning the rules/culture/etc.
Honestly I think focusing on and prioritizing their myriad small communities and not the people who want slop feed is a smart move for user retention. I still won’t go back there, but I think it’s a smart move.

1·9 days agoDon’t get me wrong I love what Zorin is doing but I still think Bazzite is going to be much more “set it and forge it” for gaming than Zorin.

It is truly astonishing how a company with their resources could have a program like Teams be so terrible for so long. Matrix/Element have advanced faster than Teams.
