I hated it at first, and when it really took off as the trendy thing at least here in my country I particularly hated it because they were outrageously sweet. It was like having a burger between 2 slices of cake, it sucked. I also felt there were textural things that just weren’t right and I complained about the hipster takeover of good burger bread.

I’ve mellowed on it now, I think in part because they’ve actually changed. I think the commercially made ones used in burger places now seem to actually taste of bread and are only just a little sweet and the whole combo especially with lots of mustard works really nicely. They look beautiful and when they aren’t super sweet they add a little something without being too cloying or distracting. I appreciate nice flavourful bread in a burger but ultimately it’s a vehicle and brioche strikes a good balance between the awful grocery store bag of fluff burger buns and super hard chewy hipster sourdough or some weird, not round form factor bread that should really be a pita or a pizza. So long as they’re toasted, they’re all good and it grows on you. Which is fortunate as everybody seems to have decided that that’s burger bread now so I’m glad I picked up the taste for it.

I also had the same thought on the greasiness but then I kind of discovered how much nicer the super greasy, drippy, messy kind of burgers are and once they’re made like that with tons of juice and fat, they’re so greasy and messy that no bread is going to save you from having completely greasy hands anyway so some negligible amount extra from the bun isn’t all that worth worrying about. If it’s one of those burgers with the tighter texture that’s not quite so indulgent, maybe a bit drier, not as big a pattie then the bread is a lot more important and the Brioche is a less good option, especially as it’s also greasy but otherwise, I’ve changed my tune on the brioche.

  • I know this is a digression from the topic but, what’s with the word ‘cuck’? I’ve never understood why people are called ‘cucks’ as an insult. My understanding is that it’s short for cuckold and that’s always seemed weird to me because if a guy gets cheated on by his partner I don’t automatically think less of them for having that happen to them. There’s another, I assume more modern, sense of the word where ‘cuck’ is referring instead to a fetish where a guy likes seeing their partner have sex with others. But like, if that’s the sense of the word being used when someone is derisively called a ‘cuck’ as an insult then it makes even less sense than the more traditional meaning of the word because if they’re in to that, then surely they’re unlikely to feel particularly ashamed or upset about people calling them that because it’s just… accurate.

  • You can’t guarantee better mods, those are volunteers/instance admins/staff of an instance admin and are people. There is nothing inherent to how Lemmy works that ensures that people tasked with moderating aren’t power hungry or in some way a bit of a dick. There was to my understanding, a certain draw to Lemmy over Reddit in that the federated nature means the actions of some power hungry moderator on one instance won’t leave you having no option but to accept their behaviour because you can just migrate to another instance to see and interact with the same content or even spin up your own instance, but that doesn’t make the mods themselves any different and that’s all in theory anyway. In practice there isn’t currently a way to migrate user accounts from one instance to another so if your account is of value to you and you’ve run afoul of some ban happy mod in one community on one instance, then you’ll have to make a whole new account on another instance if you want to circumvent them and interact in that same community again from another instance and in such a case if its identifiably still you, or you want to engage in the original behaviour that incurred their wrath then they’ll just ban you again from your new instance because a different protocol design doesn’t mean different people.

  • I like this one because, even though it’s a hypothetical, I always think these scenarios are going to involve me getting shafted somehow and it turns out they never had that billion and they just wanted you to experience having 100 mil for a short time so you know how much you lost and laugh while watching you piss it all away on things you didn’t even necessarily want.

Your way has a nice insurance policy to it if they weren’t good for the billion.

Is that not how it works? I could have sworn I had it working that way the last time I used it in 2017. Had it rigged up as the location for Da Vinci Resolve database saves and also as a backup location for an Avid project that automatically copied to that folder every day. Wasn’t a fan of OneDrive as I had dropbox personally and didn’t want another cloud service where I stored all my data as one was probably bad enough, however the production I was working on had no IT infrastructure and no money and the computer we rented for the production for some reason seemed to offer oneDrive for free with the machine. (Maybe it was something to do with the 365 subscription it had?). On that basis since it was already there I used it and it actually ended up saving our asses later on after some other backup procedures didn’t end up being followed as they should have and the piece of shit rental machine totally and catastrophically broke. Still haven’t used it since, but I was pretty happy with it at the time and was only able to do all that because it was indeed a regular folder location on the machine that happened to sync with the cloud.

  • That’s a bit like me, definitely like me for some specific tasks, but as a ratio it’s very similar to my attitude towards packing, doing homework/assignments, preparing for job interviews, preparing for any important impactful life moments except with the key difference being the label for the yellow section. For me in those scenarios, including packing, the yellow section represents time spent mentally avoiding the stress and anxiety that comes from mentally preparing for packing or anything else unpleasant by suddenly getting very interested in a random topic and reading all about it, or playing a specific videogame to absolutely ridiculous excess, or watching every episode of a long running series from at least 20 years ago, if I have it available I’m also doing most of these other tasks with a lot of weed.

It’s especially shitty because to the outsider, this looks like laziness, and that’s not wrong, I mean it’s much easier and more pleasurable to do that stuff than the hard thing you should be doing, but I’m not really enjoying that stuff because I’m doing it hard. It might sound impossible to watch a TV series hard, but doing anything in this state is a heart racing extreme form of mental concentration to absolutely fully and completely consume my mind with anything except the source of stress. So it looks like I’m watching TV and laughing at the jokes and I am, but I’m also simultaneously really stressed and tired from expending so much mental energy in to blocking everything else out. Truly a fantastic skill since I’m able to achieve precisely nothing, still get really tired, look like I didn’t do anything that would break a sweat at all and still feel like shit and be completely stressed by the end which itself will usually serve as a reminder of how little progress has been made towards the thing I was trying to avoid thinking about which induces a lot of anxiety and self loathing that needs to be fixed by even more intense even harder doing of anything else.

  • I believe while I was figuring this out I discovered one of rogue amoebas apps that I could use in conjunction with sound flower and I was nearly certain I had it, it was something to do with how Skype worked that sabotaged me, I couldn’t believe how stubbornly persistent Skype was despite how hard I tried to workaround it. I believe I was trying to make a single virtual sound device that combined my mic output with the system Audio so I could choose that as my microphone in Skype but SOMEHOW it was always able to fuck me over don’t remember how, only that I was extremely angry.

The really fun part is that the first few times this happens to you, you’re the same age and feel insecure that someone your age achieved more, but as you age in to your mediocrity you gradually get to see people who are younger and younger than you achieve more than you ever did, and now, likely ever will. But hey, there’s always the memes to take your mind off it… oh wait.
