God, post-digg era was peak. When subs like r/fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu were still active. It was just folks talking about their lives and relating to eachother. Then we all grew up, life got serious, and the culture wars started.

It’s two things. Bots, yes, but also the communities have gotten really lazy. Shit was fire during peak culture war because people were actively trying to learn. Now it’s like everyone gave up.

“Has the largest” meaning a 3 comment average per thread. That’s what the OC is talking about. The communities in Lemmy World are really small in a way that makes it hard to hold together a sub. A new movie comes out and maybe one or two people talk about it on Lemmy while Reddit has hundreds.
Then you might say, be the change you want to see, but Lemmy has a pretty small install base. Even if you participate, there isn’t anyone to follow, because the users here are usually white collar tech folk. Hence the interest groups being tech and politics.

As a long time Gen X hater, I can confirm that they’re essentially responsible for boomers being seen as the only adults in the country for the past 50-whatever years.

Getting old sucks, but dont let folks rile you up so much that punk starts being a label rather than a movement. Punk is as punk does. Nobody needs credentials.
I think I can shed light on the 6 7 hate. To do so though, I need to cover why people are okay with the others. 420 and 69 have been around for ages so they get a pass for being grandfathered and having transgressive origins. Quick maths (2+2 is 4, minus 1 that’s 3) got its fame for being an incredibly stupid thing to say in the middle of a rap while also simultaneously going way too hard for how silly it sounds. Lastly you have 21, which was a vine meme so again, a more grounded and community based origin.
What makes 6 7 stand out is that it’s from the British school system, and British culture sucks.
I rest my case.

Preach. I just migrated here and found a disturbing lack of casual communities with any real activity. A real bummer because I miss the old internet and figured this could replicate it. Still, if you build it, they will come. Maybe it’s a user count issue.

Not to defend this too much (misogyny and racism are popular pastimes in the states and I do think Kamala being a black woman was a factor in her losing), but Biden would have lost her race too. People that say Kamala’s bad stance on Isreal and dearth of big ticket items cost her the election might be pushing it a little, because it wasnt just one thing, but she was weak in those areas and it definitely cost her votes. Could a different strategy have flipped the states she needed? Who knows. It’s just not a wise strategy to blame everything on prejudice because doing so completely erases your ability to ever get someone other than a white male elected.
Crime usually comes before punishment. Right now the system is working it’s way into figuring out how to deal with this new social dynamic. Like you, I think it’s pretty straightforward. We won’t solve the core reason for the bullying dynamics though. I think humans that adhere to gendered thinking will be behind on that for a good long while yet.
