Richard Stallman wants you to know: GNU/Linux was always a political statement.

In other words, you don’t have to choose! They’re basically the same thing!

I’d just like to interject for a moment. What you’re refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux!

It’s not even just “political”, it is politics. Deciding to collaboratively make an operating system (infrastructure, practically) which is free for everyone and asking anyone using it to help out is doing politics, at least in a world where people are politically motivated to restrict people’s ability to go and do that somehow.

    How about Linux politics…

Richard stallman is a rapist mf. But that is OK cuz even if he hadn’t started FOSS revolution someone else would have and he is not the sole authority over FOSS community it is literally everyone.

Accusing people like Stallman of being rapists dilutes the meaning of the word.

Is he creepy? Sure. Does he have rather unpopular opinions on what constitutes pedophilia? Yep. Does he go around forcing people to have sex with him? No.

Just like you used the phrase, “unpopular opinions on what constitutes pedophilia” instead of saying he thinks or is ok with pedophilia. I used the word rapist. Sure the definition might change based on which dictionary you’re looking at but for me if you are repeatedly making sexual advances which are making the other person feel unsafe or uncomfortable then you are a rapist.

I appreciate what he’s done for the FOSS movement.

I’ve read up his commentary about underage women, choosing to form my own opinion. And yeah I find it pretty gross.
