Correct me if I’m wrong, but you may wish to make use of the cross-post feature rather than linking directly to another post on a fixed instance. The link kicks visitors off their prefered instance.
I think “kicked off” is not quite the right explanation. Linking to a post in another instance this way leads to being logged out. I can see a link from lemmy.world while still in my home instance, but if I visit lemmy.world, where I don’t have an account, I am logged out.
Huh. I’m gonna try with my other account, see uf it happens to me too.
Edit: seems that the link opens in your browser/Voyager in stead of in your chosen native app, giving the appearance of logging you off. You’re not actually logged off, as pressing the back button takes you back to your app but yeah, that IS very annoying!
My apologies, gonna use a better method next time I share a post.
Even worse, lots of mobile apps haven’t figured out federated link recognition. So the Lemmy.world link opens in the in-app browser and you see the mobile version of the site, instead of simply using the app to browse the thread.

I’m pretty sure that’s actually what I did and Lemmy cross posting is just a bit weird…
Either way, you don’t get kicked off your instance by viewing posts from communities on other instances. That’s not how federation works 🙂
