PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Magical academy visual novel Lilac will have an all-male or all-female cast depending on which version you buyEnglish
1·1 day agoThose who buy -side Witch- can purchase -side Wizard- as DLC and vice versa, allowing you to experience both versions without having to pay for two full-priced games.
Still, kinda leaves a bitter taste in my mouth as it sounds like a capcom-esque dlc-on-disc type of scenario.

2·12 days agoEpic can finally add all the features they want but until they stop the BS of PC exclusivity deals, I’ll continue to never buy from them and will stick to Steam, GoG, and Itch.

41·15 days agoLack of competition? WTF are you even talking about?
You’ve got Epic, GoG, itch.io, and not to mention publisher specific storefronts like origin, ubisoft’s whatever the hell launcher for PC.
That’s plenty of competition, it’s just that they suck at actual competition or are comfortable in their niche market.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•UK activist hits Valve with a $903 million lawsuit — claims Steam is abusing its market dominance and forcing UK consumers to pay too much for Steam gamesEnglish
193·21 days agoOkay. So how is Steam causing Nintendo to release their games at 80 dollars or rockstar threatening to sell the next GTA at 100 dollars due to Steam’s undue market dominance?
Also game developers have the option of using other platforms like epic, humble, itch, or using mostly DRM free GoG, my personal favorite.
As for the whole Steam preventing developers from selling elsewhere, I’d actually be interested in seeing their proof on this because developers have their games multiple storefronts at launch all the time. And kind of hypocritical to not sue Epic to for their exclusivity deals they make with publishers, literally preventing them from selling on another storefront.
Seems like a bullshit grifting lawsuit to me but hell I’m open to seeing what their actual evidence is.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Jensen Huang: Israel has become Nvidia’s second homeEnglish
9·22 days agoHonestly AMD only has mid-range this time around but the 9070 XT trades blows with the 5070 TI and the ray tracing, if you’re into that, is much better but not quite as good as Nvidia.
So another thing to consider is with Windows 11 being an AI dumpster fire that patches will brick your system, if you go with a Linux build, AMD or Intel would provide a lot better driver support than Nvidia.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Cyberpunk 2077 VR Modder Hit by Another DMCA Strike, Pauses Patreon, Pulls Access to All His Mods, and Declares He's 'Under Attack'English
125·25 days agoHere’s the thing, he and the other modders that are doing this are very much so running a fine line here. They’re modifying the game’s code, sure it’s in memory, but it’s their code they’re modifying to get things to work. It’s not just relying on using existing API calls that are open for them to use. Just because they’re not modifying the files on disk vs modifying in-memory doesn’t mean they’re not using their IP, they certainly are and there’s precedent that this type of action falls under the DMCA.
Take in point that Riot and Bungie and many other companies have DMCA’ed and sued cheat makers and hey those guys were also just selling mods for their games. They also weren’t selling any files from their copyrighted games either they were just selling a framework to inject their software into their games. So question is are you also saying that Riot and Bungie are also DMCA sue-happy people who are Debbie downers that are preventing coders from making money?
Your simplistic, it’s just a phone case, isn’t analogous here.
Don’t get me wrong, IP law is tricky and IANAL but again, when a company politely asks you to respect their ToS and not sell a mod using their IP and you throw a tantrum and manage to piss off your community, well good luck buddy.

384·25 days agoDon’t rely on making money off of paid mods that require use others IP and then throw a giant tantrum garnering more Streisand attention to yourself that you’re making money off of paid mods using other people’s IP by publicly throwing a tantrum disrespecting the wishes of a reasonable request by the developer that says “Don’t make a paid mod for our game but here’s an alternative so you can still make money but still respect our developers’ desire to keep mods free.”
Just a thought.
