  • Hell, first poster’s name is a little too on the nose for the post too lol. I mean it COULD be a joke account but not sure. I hate Threads and have never used it, so finding this account is probs to hard for me… Idk what the “tweet/post” layout loojs like on there. Is there a thread logo on the main post and a heart on replies?

  • I mean, at least for me, Nintendo had actually interesting hardware that made gameplay different than just “use a controller/keyboard”. This is evident in how much mock hardware exists for the DS/3DS, because emulating those games on a single screen fucking sucks (I played KH 358/2 days on PC emulator and despised it). Even when you emulate Wii and WiiU games, using a mouse can’t feel the same as actually holding a Wii remote. Had Nintendo not cheaped out on the Joycons, we would’ve used them and loved it. And obviously the Steam Deck was inspired by the Switch, as consumers themselves say they like being able to play PC games anywhere.

I just worry that going “Pc only” will remove the chances of having creative hardware that actually makes use of it’s form factor when gaming. And just because PC is more free compared to consoles doesn’t mean it’s perfect or will stay that way. Check this blog someone shared recently.

Gen z here, I do use a wallet but many people use these sticky wallets that you slap on the back of your phone case to hold their cards.

I don’t use them because 1. what if something slips out somehow and 2. damn you lose your phone and wallet in one.

We don’t just leave shit hanging loose lol. We still have credit cards and drivers licenses to hold.

  • Unfortunately Nintendo’s been on the trend of basically being digital too with those shitty keycards that will cease to work if you didn’t download the game before they eventually cut their servers (or if you try to play it for the first time in a place without wifi)

Nevermind the whole “We can brick your device whenever we feel like it”. I’m genuinely upset because Nintendo has so many IPs that I love and literally can’t play anywhere else. Especially the fact that they actually made interesting and unique hardware like the DS and Wii, which can be a pain to emulate rather than just having a jailbroken console. Plus there’s way more steps invloved with Switch emulation compared to old consoles.

I’ve got a huge game backlog, but I was really looking forward to this year and the next after that Switch 2 direct :(

  • I wrote more about it in my other comment, but yeah FF 15 driving and running in empty fields killed me. And that was literally my first FF game ever. The audacity to say “Great for new and old fans” at the start was funny, since my mom who’s an FF veteran hated it too when she watched me play. I think the main party was fine, but the plot basically goes nowhere until we arrive at the water town and Levithan shows up. The the rest of the game is “ride a train and fight bad guys.”

I can appreciate games with a more “realistic” look, but I still love more cartoony 3D and pixel graphics, so I would gladly take that over these blockbuster billion dollar movie-games they keep making. Octopath is absolutely stunning imo, and I had a wonderful time playing the second game. The new mechanics were simple, but a definite improvement from the first.

And that’s kinda just JRPGs in general. I think Tales of Arise looked fine, but my mom is adamant about the monsters getting uglier. She really just loves cutesy things, so she feels upset when JRPGs with a legacy start to turn more “western” or “manly.” But I do feel like there’s a growing lack of actual discovery and whimsy in RPGs and just, “this world is big” and “Woah the graphics look so good the water is super realistic”

I keep joking that I don’t need to see a close up of every pore on Cloud’s face to buy the game. Just make the characters loveable, the story engaging, and the soundtrack good and you’ve got me.

  • My mom has been playing JRPGs like Tales of and FF since almost their beginnings, and she strongly feels this way. She constantly complains about newer JRPGs trying too hard to look western or appeal to overtly “manly” gamers, and while she takes it to a degree far more than me, I do agree with her. Especially since I know this article mentions kids were mostly playing Pokemon.

We watched the first hour or two of FF 16, and while I kinda liked the plot, it just looks too gritty and rough (and also the fuck was that softcore sex scene???). I maybe will play it since I’m doing my initial FF series marathon (started with the 3D remake of III), but I just feel meh about the later games.

I played FF XV a year ago and was severely underwhelmed, especially since I didn’t know the game is essentially unfinished without the additional story DLC. The setting took me out of it too, I was expecting a way more fictional and creative world than I got because, well, it is called “Final FANTASY”, but the reality was just. Watch this boyband drive a car for hours and do sidequests until “Oh shit we need to get the blessings of the titans/guardians/whatever!”

Having that as my first FF game was kinda disappointing lol.

  • I’m playing III Nocturne (PS4 HD Remake) and I’ve never seen this area nor does the game follow a 1st person POV (it’s in 3rd POV), so I’m inclined to say it could be SMT IV (althought I haven’t played it yet). I’m basically at the end of SMT III, so I feel like I would remember this area.

Tbh I thought it was Soul Hackers when I saw the graphics and POV, cause that game is a 1st person POV game where npcs are in the dungeon/overwolrd, and the city is still pre-apocaplyse. Plus that point of Soul Hackers was the phones/tech that lets you go into that digital town. But both SH and SMT IV are 3DS games, so it could be either.
