My parents chose to try for kids during a time where global nuclear warfare was almost seen as a certainty.

There will always at all points in time be some doom scenario to worry about.

I mean, climate change is certainly happening. But i’d rather try and make a positive impact on things instead of feeling defeated. I’d rather go down fighting, with or without having kids.

Well, your parents were very horny. Thing is, the possibility of a nuclear war is now the same, if not even higher. And now we know that we fucked up our climate beyond repair. We know that our kids will live in a dystopian wasteland.

We do depending on the timescale. Sure the planet can naturally sequester carbon again just like before but that is over thousands of years. For people alive right now it is beyond repair because we will all be dead by the time carbon is sequestered faster than it is added.

We know that the planet is warming, we’re setting records right now for it and we know why the planet is warming because we can measure the greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere. The GHGs added to the atmosphere over my life so far will never be canceled out through the rest of my lifetime because the rate that we’re adding them to the atmosphere.

We can take steps to lessen the impact and make it easier to overcome in the future but we’ve been doing almost everything in our power as a species to create this problem and we’re casually toying with maybe doing something better but not reversing this.

We’re looking at breaching the 1.5 degree limit here in the next few years and that is the start of permanent damage to certain ecosystems.

If nobody had kids and the human race died out, earth could repair itself. The only reason earth is so fucked is because of the humans.

You not having kids is literally the best thing you could possibly do for the planet

Sad but true. But since the “not so good” people will keep having kids it’s necessary to counteract ;)

Those kids will have to be exposed to the world eventually (… r-right?). Converting them to help spread love based on empathy and morals rather than rhetoric seems like the fastest route in my head. Fight fascist propaganda with our own~

However, idk how to reach them lol. Memes n pray? XD

Yeah, my SO and I have talked about adopting. We’d feel better about not bringing someone into this and still offering them some help in a difficult situation they’re in.

Since our planet is broken beyond repair, how about we sell it on ebay as “slightly used”
